Spalsau is an ancient Norwegian sheep breed that has been domesticated since roughly 500 BC, Nordic iron age. This is before the Viking age. Spelsau sheep have a two-layered coat. The outer layer is tough and water-resistant, and the inner layer is finer. Spelsau wool was used to weave Viking ship sails and the dense wadmal fabric (this is used to make outdoor clothing) that allowed survival in the High North. The Baldishol Tapestry (produced sometime around 1150-1190 AD), a Norwegian textile treasure, was woven with Spelsau wool. Gammelserie's twist makes it durable for socks, mittens and items that get a lot of use.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eGammelserie is at the heart of Rauma's traditional range.
